During the last years of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, transformations were many and very significant. Most of them happened due to the advances caused by industrialization and its consequences. These alterations changed society in different aspects, economic, political, social and cultural.

Due to the second industrial revolution, the industrialized nations needed inexpensive raw materials and a workface to supply their industries.

The new kind of state was based on liberal values and proposed the separation of power s in which people could carry out national sovereignty and the writing of a constitution to curb the government excesses.

On the other hand, scientific and technological advances led some European nations and the United States of America to progress. Innovations achieved in science were reflected in the means of transportation and communication.

The Austro-Hungarian Empire was divided into four nations: Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. The Turk-ottoman Empire lost is territories in Europe, and gave up the ones in the near east to the League of Nations.

Transportation and communication also went through important changes during the second half of the nineteenth century.

England had a flourish, economy, political stability, a developing industry, and its fleet represented the most powerful naval potency from Europe; as consequence, it dominated transatlantic trading.

One of the consequences of the industrial revolution was the strengthening of the bourgeoisie and the emergence of the proletariat and their confrontation due to their ideological, sociological and economical differences.

Industrialization created an accelerated growth in most urban centers

With growth of population house building was a must, as well as the modification of streets and business, the planning and organization of the public transportation and other services, such as the sewerage and street lighting systems.

The impact of industrializations, urbanization and demographic growth, was an immense for urban as well as the rural areas.

During the nineteenth century in Europe, there were many multinational states formed by different nations where one dominated politically, militarily and culturally the other subordinate nations.

The formation of these states could be violent and cruel was the case with the Austro-Hungarian, Russian and ottoman Empires.
