Morally is involved in most of our everyday decisions, and reading this descriptive article makes you stop and think before making those decisions. The death penalty is something that comes to mind while reading this. Like many other people, I believe criminals who hurt someone so bad despite all moral rules, should be hurt just as bad, sometimes I would even think staying in prison is what they deserve because they’ll suffer more. I never stopped to think about my firm believe, and never did I feel morally wrong until Pinker talks about the willingness of people to hurt others. He quotes Bertrand Russell “The infliction of cruelty with a good consciousness is a delight to moralists.” These words change my perspective on revenge, which we often believe people deserve.
Morally is a term that has been around for a very long time, and it continues to change as learn. I would honestly give or recommend this article to anyone I know because I believe it is important to evaluate the way we think, judge, and act. The facts, and proof the writer provides can surprise and change anyone. My father for example, he believes he always says and does right, so it would benefit him to know all the different facts that influence the way we think, and all the moral mistakes we make without even realizing it. On the other hand, my mom is very traditional and has old moral believes, so it would help her to know that many of the great things we use or have now were once morally wrong. This article can change her view on new things. In conclusion, we can all be morally wrong, and make a bad judgement call, I learned that and more thanks to this article, and anyone can benefit from it in their own way.
