a character (Rosenstand, 2003). Our virtues determines our attitudes in the way we may react to

situations. It’s our character traits that we have adopted like, our courage may lead us to sacrifice

our life to save others. Other traits are our integrity, compassion, self-control.

So for this manner, a person’s virtue- reasoning says everyone should be treated equal, so

everyone should be saved and none’s life is more important than another. Whichever scenario, it

will end up a disaster, because lives are at stake. The scoutmaster should have never put those

kids in that danger. It was poor judgment to let the children enter into the cave first. The scout’s

priority is to ensure safety for the children and himself. It shows a lack of virtue on his part by

not getting the kids out before himself.

Whatever the scout’s leader’s reason for the decision, it’s up to the paramedics to determine

what happens next. They are the first on the scene and their job is to assess the situation and

make the best moral decision possible. When it comes to having to make a quick moral decision,

no decision is the absolute right or wrong decision. Every situation is different and we must

respect those that have to make those tough life or death choices. “When applying different

standards to healthcare practice, different conclusions may be achieved. It is important to

understand all parties’ view points, to clarify the ethical issues, and to compromise in resolving

the dilemma (Fremgen, 2003).
