Implication for school counselors

There are many ways a school counselor can help assist students with cyber bullying such as education, prevention, and intervention. counselors can assist a student by educating them on cyber bullying. Before the counselor has to educate themselves so that he or she may assist the student in need. They can do this by having the understanding of where and how cyber bullying occurs. Another actions counselor can educate themselves on can be to know what type of impact that cyber bullying has on the victims and learn how to support them, also provide punishment to the perpetrators. A counselor can educate school employees on about cyber bullying and teach employee ways to prevent and address it rather it is inside or outside of school property. The counselor will need to educate the students about cyber bullying such as the effects and the importance of the ethical outline conduct.

A school counselor can implement cyber bullying through prevention. Counselors can reach out to others counselors, or school administrators to help set up structures on ways to prevent cyber bullying. Examples of ways to prevent can be to set up rules and outline them for students. The rules will explain the consequences and expectations. A workshop can be setup to give the students a better understanding on the responsibilities, how it occurs, and the technology usage of cyber bullying.

intervention can occur when school counselors and other school personnel encounter incidents of cyber bullying, they can do two things to support the victim or victims, and provide prove consequences to the perpetrators.

Victim support:

1. Ensure the victim that they are being supported, reinsuring them that their voices cunt.

2. Also providing emotional and psychological support for the victims.

Consequences and guidance for the perpetrator:

3. Proving some emotional or psychological support such as counseling, or a referral to see a therapist.

4. The law enforcement should be involved when the level of bullying is out of control.

5. Different measures can be taken such as detention, school suspension, and restriction of technology usage.

Conclusion

In conclusion knowing the facts on why cyber bulling occur? how cyber bullying occur? Make help make a big impact in a victim or perpetrator life. Cyber bullying can be emotional and damaging in one’s life. As the counselor develops a positive plan on how to prevent cyber bullying they can prevent harm to others, threats, and insults. Using guidelines such as Education, prevention, and intervention will make a difference in a child life today, tomorrow, and forever.
