Deposit of Commercial Banks.

Total deposits mobilized by the banking sector during the 2nd quarter of 2014 under review reached to Birr 316.3 Billion, (increased from the last quarter by 7.36%) out of which 214.3 Billion Birr is raised by public banks (mainly CBE 209.2 billion birr) and the rest 102 Billion Birr is by private banks. This was partly attributed to the rise in the number of bank branches, and improvement in the overall economic activities.

Trends in Deposit

Comparing to last quarter, the total deposit of public banks has shown an increasing growth from -0.51% in to 8.62%. Private Banks deposit is increased in the 2nd quarter by 4.67 billion birr compared to the previous quarter. Private Banks quarter percentage growth trend has depicted a decreasing trend from 5.04% to 4.81%. However peer banks has shown an increasing trend from 5.91% to 12.59%. Public banks deposit reached Birr 214.3 Billion, increased in to 8.62% from the last quarter. Comparing to the last quarter, high increases were observed on the deposit level of CBO(20%), Enat(17%), OIB(14%), Berhan(13.5%), Bunna(11.4%), CBE(8%), Abay(7%), NIB(3.73%), CBB(2.45%), Zemen(2.08%). In contrary a quarter decrease has been depicted in the deposit level of DGB (-13.4%), Addis (-5.7%), Awash (1.09%), Wegagen (1.34%), BOA (2.64%), UB (3.05%), Abay (7.47%), Lion (10.12%), Bunna (11.39%).
