Nevertheless, the use of act utilitarianism fails because in most causes, like this one, acting to promote the greatest mount of good can will likely be twisted to add to ones own benefit. Lying, even if it is to save money, can ruin the integrity of the company, ruining its name causing it to no longer be trusted because it failed to follow the moral rules set that keep in mind the well being of the consumers, who ultimately makes up the life of the company.

Furthermore, using the idea of rule utilitarianism in this situation is the morally correct decision. With the choice brought forth one must take into consideration the possible risk of ten to fifteen people dying or becoming injured in this a venture to save money and benefit the company. One can not assume that the greater good is to save money; when one out of the ten to fifteen people affected by this defective part could be Bill Gates, who’s does more good than your company and also donates thousand of dollars to the automotive company. He ultimately creates the most for the most amounts of people.

In conclusion, as a morally aware employee I have the duty to promote the well being of others; I am supposed to keep my integrity in all situations not just some. In this situation, lying on this report knowing that it could possibly cause harm or kill those ten to fifteen people is intentionally causing unhappiness to those individuals affected by the defective parts. Every action has an unpredictable outcome making predetermined rule invalid for all situations. So being apart of something that could potentially kill, cause harm and/or unhappiness to innocent others is morally incorrect and cannot be justified by one company’s well being.
