Presently, the Musée du Louvre includes many departments made up of antiquities from ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, sculptures from the Middle ages to present, furniture, and paintings representing all of the European schools. Well-known works of art shown in Le Louvre include Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Veronese’s Wedding at Cana painting. Le Louvre also offers a school, which trains curators in the history of art and archaeology.

Le Louvre has a long history that clearly reflects the history of the country itself. It changed with France, it rose and fell as the various rulers of France rose and fell, it was expanded and renovated as the borders of the country and its ideals of France expanded and were renovated. The growth and regression of Le Louvre reflected that of France, and I believe that this makes Le Louvre a very important landmark of the country. Speaking in regard to cultural experience, it likens a lot to the various changes in American structures that reflect that changes in our country such as the Twin Towers being destroyed in 9/11. Another example would be how the Virginia State Capitol was really a symbol Thomas Jefferson’s declaration of independence from Britain, as it was a change from British architecture and was built in Richmond, which served as the capitol of the Southern Confederacy during the time of our growing independence from Britain. Although I wasn't alive during this time, researching and learning about the history of Le Louvre gave me the same sense of cultural pride that I feel with learning about American history and knowing that theres more to a building than meets the eye, as it helps me to appreciate that building and the history of my country more.
