how busy I was with school, extracurricular activities, and life in general. What have I been doing all these years with this pent up stress? Why have I not turned to nature to relieve the stress?
Understandably, as humans, people often focus on one thing so much that people tend to lose focus of the big picture itself. Nowadays, people are so involved with their busy schedule and technology, that they don’t have time to stop and smell the roses. I felt this to be true after spending my spring break watching hummingbirds on the back patio. The stress of school often leaves me from seeing the whole world and what it has to offer me. On news channels, I always see articles on how kids are being sucked into technology and are staying inside more instead of playing outside. Growing up, I would always be outside on my scooter or on my rollerblades going through the neighborhood. To see kids without an understanding of the world and nature breaks my heart. The outside world opens an individual’s eyes and perspective on the world that surrounds them. As Bartholomew states, “If we see life systems only in mechanical terms, our worldview becomes blinkered and we are unaware of other levels of connection” (14). This is the exact epitome of what has happened to the world we live in now. As the population begins to increase the demand for living also increases, therefore more land is needed. And where do find the land? From parks or fields of grass that have no purpose to the society. I honestly don’t quite understand how people could ignore the nature around them when it’s the very thing that makes up this world. The human race causes chaos, while the nature surrounding us goes along life without a single world, only a hum inaudible in this loud world.
