As we all know, self-discipline is almost the weakness of everyone, as for me, it might be even worse. When i was a primary school student, i was easily be distracted by the external disturbance, and usually, i won’t finish the homework until the very last minute. I found this bad habit did also happen in a team project, that i was used to become the president of an organization, and i didn’t run things well at the beginning because of that bad habit, for example, when we held an event, everything should be prepared well before that, but because sometimes i prefer leisure over work, i didn’t make that preparation immediately, which resulted in some accidents. Because of that, i got embarrassed because i believe i am a perfectionist, how could i make that happen. I paid a lot attention to myself after those events, and it did improve a lot as time went by. People who lack self-discipline could have a chilling effect on the team, because usually, all sections of work are connected, one section delayed, another section couldn’t be started, therefore, it’s always necessary to set the deadline for all things before started to do the team project.
The perspective or the vision of a team is extremely important because it decides the future path of the team, for example, Microsoft company won’t be that successful if Gates didn’t have a dream that “ everyone could own his personal computer.” All great companies, all have their clear visions, there is almost no exceptions. I felt i didn’t have a sharp perspective of a team’s development, i used to believe that i am a change agent, and i could make a right direction for my team or organization, but later on, when we were moving in a wrong road, i didn’t realize it and since i didn’t listen to other people’s suggestion,(as i discussed earlier), it poisoned my organization for a long period until i figured out we got to change our path.
Personal development plan.
I felt if i could spend more time and more patience listening from other people’s opinion, it would be extraordinarily improve my leadership skills and quality. It’s always good to keep my confidence because it helps with decision making, but too much confidence or believing i am special is harmful to the development of myself as well as the team. Also, when it comes to the perspective or vision, i believe talking to those experienced people especially who did great job of running a company would be so helpful to build my vision, to think in a different way. However, in terms of self-discipline, i believe this requires long-term self training to improve yourself, self-discipline is too large which includes all kinds of habits, if you could get rid of your bad habits and form new habits, as time goes by, your self-discipline quality will get improved greatly.
In terms of my strengths, i believe the willing to change is the internal motivation to move me forward, not matter what’s going to become, i will never surrender but keep thinking about a better way to solve the problem, good negotiating skills could help me understand the emotion and psychology of the clients or people around me, for sacrifice, i believe no matter what career you are going to start with, sacrifice is always necessary.
Combined with my strengths and weaknesses, i believe the best job for me should be the psychologist, as we all know, to become a good psychologist, you got to listen carefully about the patients’ expression and feeling, and make the judgments what the patients need eventually, this job could help me improve my weaknesses, because you really need patience to listen to what the clients are talking about, to find out their internal ghost that what hurts them. You will train your self-discipline quality during the process as you need to control your own emotions, you can’t be affected by the clients or you will lose yourself. Also, i could also apply my strength into becoming a psychologist, for example, since i believe i could change everything, i also want to change my clients to become more happy and satisfied of their lives. Since i could negotiate, i will be able to talk to my clients and know more about the deeper area of what he or she thinks, which would be helpful to solve mental problems. With the willing to sacrifice myself, or due to the professional ethics, i will try my best to help every clients that i meet with.
In conclusion, i am happy to write the self-assessment paper, because it helps me reflect myself through my twenty years of my lives, no matter personally, or working with other people as a team, it instruct me to a more clear direction, that who am i supposed to be and what i am going to do. This program also helps me think about my role in a team, what should i do and what i shouldn’t do to help build a team.
