with the earthquake information stands out to me because even what follows the earthquake connects to it and it’s size. Many people died, lost their houses, and relied on the help of other people.
4) Chapter 9 and chapter 10
S. Regions key to chapters nine and ten specifically include: Swat valley, Mingora, Musharraf, Islamabad, and Pakistan.
C. People to keep in mind: Malala, the Taliban, Maulana Faqzullah, Benazir Bhutto, and Mullahs.
O. The objective of chapter nine breaks down who the Taliban present themselves as, and give us plenty of background information on the Taliban. When reading chapter 10, you find more information about the Taliban, but this information is definitely more recent.
R. As you review these chapters, you may find yourself waiting for the peak of the story. As we know from the prologue, the man behind the trigger is a part of the Taliban; therefore, when being informed of the Taliban, the reader begins to become anxious for the climax. Malala wants the reader to being comparing other Muslims to the Taliban.
E. Since we read the climax in the prologue, Malala creates background information on the Taliban, since they were the cause of her near death experience. Expectations for the next few chapters must contain when Malala gets shot.
EVENT: The Taliban would hold bombings, public whippings, and murders. Not only did the Taliban torture the people who did the “wrong doing” or refusal to relate themselves with the taliban, but they would also tourcher their families.
QUOTE: Shabana was murdered by the Taliban for dancing and not being muslim. Although everyone loved her dances, all her friends and other citizens wouldn’t acknowledge her murder nor even speak about her.
5) Chapter 11 and chapter 12
S. The settings in chapters eleven and twelve incorporate: Malala’s school, Pakistan, Haji Baba High School, Swat, Sangota Conventional School for Girls, and Islamabad.
C. Individuals to remember: Malala, Taliban, Malka e-Noor, Ziauddin, Fazlullah, Bhutto, President Asif Zardari, Kushal, and Shabna.
O. The main objective Malala incorporates is that even though the Muslim Taliban is trying to do good for man, they do it by screwing over the women. When the Taliban beings taking different places off the map, the citenzens find themselves becoming afraid and listening to the Taliban.
R. When the Taliban murders Bhutto, you can tell that is where the violence just begins. As women are killed more consistently, they become more gruesome. The Taliban started suicide bombing schools for females; females at the time were threatened to not go it school “or else”. When reading chapters eleven and twelve, we hear many the people of Ziauddin’s school wish to not attend anymore, as they are afraid of what the Taliban may do. Im sure the other schools got this warning as well but many chose not to follow it.
E. Honestly, I’m still waiting on Malala to get shot… but I already mentioned that. So, I expect the Taliban to continue to blow up schools, eventually bomb the school Malala attends. I would like to see the Taliban get stood up to; as of right now in the novel, the citizens are too afraid to stand up to the Taliban. Maybe the government could help by cutting off their access to the bombs they were getting ahold of.
EVENT: In their schools, Malala and her classmates call their teachers by Sir or Miss. I found this mildly confusing because the only time we call our teachers by miss is if they’re not married. We also never call someone by Sir.
QUOTE: In the first sentence on chapter eleven, Malala states her education was the only thing that kept her going. This stood out to me because I find her very inspiring; although Malala was constantly paranoid, she alway pursued her education.
