China’s modernization in Society was represented by both the area in money matters and the area in people’s daily life. Although Wasserstrom’ s essays might describe an older era of China, it also pointed out something as a trend contributing to China’s modernization. On the marketing level, all the big companies around the world saw the big potential in China’s market because when China was developing so rapidly and government stop blocking international trade, it strongly welcomed the foreign enterprises launching the business in China’s market. Starbucks mentioned by Wasserstrom is a good example that people are overall accepting the new enterprises entered the China’s market, which contributed to the China’s growth to modernization. “The chain’s arrival was seen as contributing to... The proliferation of new independently run coffeehouse.”(Wasserstrom, 22).On the emotional level, Larsen discussed phenomena that many single women were paying for a private emotional counseling session. Nothing like the past, where women had no rights to choose who they want to marry as I mentioned in the last paragraph, nowadays women can even counsel about the romance problems. “Wu, who typically charges $160 an hour for “private romance counseling, explaining their plight...””(Larsen, 283). The changes of China embracing the international market, as well as the phenomena Chinese Ladies solving their emotional problems by counseling, can both contribute to the Chinese modernization which makes China a more individually modernized country.
Combining these two essays together, one written by Wasserstrom about the behaviors of global products in China and by Larsen about the phenomena of left-over ladies in China, we can make a conclusion on China’s development during the few decades that three themes are supporting this development: Economy, open-mindedness and modernization. They grew together and affected a lot in the Chinese history, as well as the history of other countries. We can hardly predict what will happen in the future decades in China; probably the three themes will still be the main supports to the China’s development. It’s hard to make a solid conclusion, but

as China follow the world’s overall trend and make corrections on the ways that are disadvantages, it will continue to develop in every aspect into a more perfect and flawless country.
