An externship gives college students a "a day in the life" experienceIt. Externs may or may not work on actual client matters; Individuals and organizations who host externs are contributing their valuable time to give you a free learning experience; typically you neither receive compensation nor do you pay for the learning experience. Externships are mostly for the purpose of learning more about a career field or work environment, but if you make a very good impression on the people you meet, it could open the door to another experience (internship, co-op, summer job, etc.) later. For example, David N. Deutsch & Company have a great externships. It gives students real life experience in a New York, investment banking boutique. They are presented with a rare opportunity to sample the world of investment banking and gain perspective and career advice from well respected Wall Street professionals. Facebook Public Policy Externship is also available to college students pursuing a BA or graduate degree in business, law, political science, public policy, international relations, communications, journalism, or equivalent. This is a full-time, contract position for the summer of 2015.

Its also exciting to thrive under pressure and the challenge of deadlines.
