"Life seems to be common even to plants perception seems to be common ... to ... every animal. There remains, then, an active life of the element that has a rational principle" (Aristotle, pp. 38). Aristotle explains life deals with everything which contains life: human, animal and plant. When an individual is pursuing to achieve a virtuous life, this is their primary function.
There is an obligation which needs to be met; only the virtuous life of contemplation which allows the function of man to be a principle. "We state the function of man to be ... an activity ... of the soul implying a rational principle ... if this is the case, human good turns out to be activity of soul in accordance with virtue" (Aristotle, pp. 38-39). Aristotle further elaborates the notion of function of man, they role in virtuous life of contemplation, making the function an activity. This activity is implication of principles to a man’s soul.
Examining why Aristotle believed that a living a contemplative life is the best option by explaining that is the life of God. Which requires little external goods if any and identifies the human function. The ideology behind the message seems to be compelling and understanding, one requires a religion in order to portray the almighty’s life as the best, allowing one to compare and analysis his/her life to God’s life. External goods are not what brings happiness as discussed earlier, because a contemplative life allows for reasoning. which will allow an individual to use reason and not equipment. Concluding with an explanation and definition of what Aristotle feels is the function of man.Living a contemplative life is the best because it allows individuals to gain wisdom, therefore the obtained wisdom will allow them to answer the questions in regards to a meaningful life.
