Micro expressions can spot concealed emotions too. When someone tries to conceal his or her emotions, “leakage” of that emotion will often be evident in that person’s face. The leakage may be limited to one region of the face (a mini or subtle expression), or may be a quick expression flashed across the whole face (a micro expression). Most people do not recognize these important clues, but, with training, we can learn to spot them as they occur.
The other benefit from learning micro expressions is we can detect when people are lying. People often get emotional when they lie. These emotions can occur because of the fear of getting caught, guilt or shame about the event lied about, or even because one likes the thought of successfully lying to others. Micro expressions, can be signs of these emotions and the ability to detect them may be important for individuals working in law enforcement, national security, intelligence, or the legal system. Not as regular facial expressions, it is difficult to hide micro expression reactions because it is uncontrollable. By knowing micro expressions and knowing when people lying, we can be protected from harm, embarrassment and deception.
The last benefit of micro expressions is it can help us to recognize and better manage our own emotions. Learning to recognize facial expressions of emotion in others helps us learn to recognize our own emotions. The research reveals that simply mimicking an emotion by manipulating one’s own facial expressions will initiate the physiological experience of that emotion, we’ll feel it arise within ourself. When we purposefully train ourself to link facial expressions with internal experience, we improve our conscious awareness of our internal emotions. Thus, we improve our chances of recognizing when we are becoming emotionally triggered. This awareness can help us manage the expression of our emotions. By controlling our own use of micro expressions, we can be more convincing and manipulative to the others.
Conclusion:
Micro expressions are very brief facial expressions, lasting only a fraction of a second. They occur when a person either deliberately or unconsciously conceals a feeling. Seven emotions have universal signals: anger, fear, sadness, disgust, contempt, surprise and happiness. Micro expressions are important and have many benefits. They are very useful. So, what are you waiting? Learn it and practice it!
