Opponents claim that leech therapy sometimes can lead to excessive blooding. Indeed, although leeches themselves consume only a small amount of blood, their wounds on people may continue to bleed within a few hours. If patient loses a lot of blood, blood transfusion is needed. However, leech therapy helps patients who are suffering from blood diseases. Mehdi Jaffari states in Leeches Therapy, leech therapy can help to reduce the pain and the swelling felt from varicose veins, and can help dissolve blood clots.

Eventually, it can be seen that leech therapy is more powerful than present day drugs. However, scientists claim that there are some questionable fields should be perceived and understood. According to Medicinal Leech Therapy, researches in Europe demonstrate that leech therapy is done with medical treatments(medicines) or herbs can rise the effectiveness of the drug.
