4. Fear is prevalent because the punishment for all other feelings shadows the lives of each member of society.

The Unmentionable Times: The past before the society was created.
The Unchartered Forest: Any area outside the boundaries.
The Evil Ones: Revolutionaries who fought against the established government.
The Great Rebirth: The establishment of the current society and destruction of all who opposed it.
6a. The word that Equality is struggling to recapture is the word "I".
6b. In this society, people only live for each other. They would do anything for their brothers, but not for themselves. If they speak of themselves, they are put to death. The rediscovery of this word can lead to people doing things for themselves, and then they may become selfish.
Chapter 3
1a. Equality 7-2521 discovers electricity.
1b. This would be a revolutionary discovery just as it was in our own history. Electricity would literally and figuratively bring light to his society. There would be little use for candles. Electricity would give rise to a host of inventions that can be powered by electricity. Everything from cooking to powering generators and industry would change.
2. Basically the scholars believed that all that they knew was all there is to know. Equality knew this was not true because he discovered electricity.
