Said Christi Craig.
Deal With It was published on September 1, 1999 by Gallery Books. Esther Drill
the author of the book says she was in graduate school for interactive
telecommunications at NYU. She said there wasn’t much for teenage girls on the web at
the time. Rebecca McDonald helped write the book. She said "We really wanted to do
something that was inspired by personal stories and what we would want to have read
as teenangers." Rebecca and Esther wanted to make a book that girls can read and it
can be helpful to them. Their book was inspired by their website girl.com. The book
contains more information than the website.
Esther Drill and Rebecca McDonald are considered significant because they
wrote a book for any age woman can read for a resource. Esther Drill and Rebecca
McDonald wanted to show to other teenagers that other teenagers can relate to them.
Deal With It was challenged at West bend community memorial library because it
was "pornographic and worse than a rated R movie." The library took a vote whether to
keep the book in the library or not. It was unanimously voted 9-0 to stay in the library. The
group doesn’t believe in nudity and bad language. The book contains both. The group
had a vote to get the book the books with nudity and sexual material moved to young
adult to adult section. They got the book to be labeled sexual material in the library.
