After his stint in the Philippines, he came back to the states to finish up with school. He first took off 1 year to just relax and rehab his knees so that it could be at a hundred percent again. He studied electrical engineering at long beach state for 6 years. He told me that going to school to become an electrical engineer was one of the hardest things he has done in his life. During his studies at long beach state he had to take classes such as physics, all levels of math, engineering classes, and as well as electrical circuit classes. Even though it was tough he managed to finish through and get his bachelor. He now works for a electrical company in LA.

Marcel Mercado is one of my favorite family members because he is the only one in my family to accomplish what many dreamt of. He is definitely a role model that many kids can look up to. Started with nothing and just worked hard for something the he thought he deserved and that can be very respected. Being part of the few that can say they played at a professional level in sports is a very special feat but not only that, also being able to not give up in life when adversity hit and too keep on going and receive a bachelor on a major that is one of the hardest fields out there is something that only some can achieve. He is a hard working individual and deserves the things he has in his life up to this day.
