The first few moments of the match could only be described as a battle of fierce warriors trying to win a war, and the only way we could do that is with the basketball. The player on the other team, whose basketball team name was “The Rhinos”, caught the ball first and rushed to our hoop with no hesitation. I stood ready at my position, waiting for him to come close enough for me to block his shot. The boy with the ball was about my height but a bit bigger in muscle size, trying to block him head on wasn’t the smartest idea so I decided to wait for him to shoot at the 2-point line. Suddenly he stopped, aimed his throw, and threw the ball a couple inches near the 2 point line; this was my cue to jump and block his shot. I jumped like a rabbit and stretched my arms to the sky hoping that this would be good enough to stop him from getting a point. Miraculously it was, and the ball now rested in my firm hands; I ran down the court passing the ball back and forth with my teammates until I was sure I could take a good shot. My eyes were locked onto the hoop as I suddenly heard my coach yell “Shoot it Kyree!” at me, I didn’t waste any time after that. I began to bend my knees and bend my arms just like how I practiced, and shoot with grace. As the ball began to leave my finger-tips the opposing team started to charge at me and block my shot, but it was already too late. The ball had swiftly glided through the air like a bird and into the hoop with a “SWISH!” sound; this caused the buzzer to ring and the crowd to joyfully celebrate. The next three quarters of the match were in our favor and we managed to win by 61-20; a landslide victory. In the end, our team defeated every team that we were matched with which granted us a winning streak for the whole season; we were named the “Undefeatable Panthers”. When the state championships came around our team won every match-up we were put up against and received first place in our division. That day I held that gold trophy, was the day I officially became a real basketball player.
