Steps

• Started to keep a planning tracker

• Started utilizing the Microsoft outlook features to plan a calendar of events (Daily Basis).

• Identify task on priority level and doing the same accordingly.

• Started to plan my work well in advance so as to meet all deadlines.

5) Constructing coherent arguments & articulating ideas and critically evaluating information

I understand the importance of critical thinking and after starting my programme here

and exposed to such an environment of learning which is new for me, I am finding it difficult to always have a critical approach towards everything.

Steps

• Since the assignments given, sessions we do, in the class are more reflected toward analyzing critically and I will use these oppurtunites to improve this area.

• Participation in discussions and gaining key aspects of critical thinking.

• Reading journals, books and articles to develop critical thinking approach.

• Attending extra English Classes in another college.

6) Developing and maintaining effective networks

As HND student, it is important for me to learn the art of networking and use it effectively. I understand that since I am in a new country all together it’s very important to build a network of people who are going to help me not just in terms of work but else wise too.

Steps

• Participation in various network building Business school events.

• Actively involved in various areas that I am interested, so as to meet new people and build a network of people around.

Conclusion

In conclusion, in order to achieve every goal in my life, doing an individual personal development plan is very important. The Plan above states my priorities of development during the course of my HND programme and thus are short term plan for the current year. I believe I can make best possible use of my learning experience if apart from my academic learning I learn to excel in the above stated areas. The goal thus for me is to use this development plan and build my skill sets, which can help me grow in my post HND career and I believe with this plan I can track my development well.

Importance of Self Reflection?

• Improve your personal well being

• If you are not able to reflect, you can’t see how well or unwell your living

• Medical students consistently experience high levels of stress, low

• Self-reported levels of wellness, decreased exercise and socialization, and increased frequency of alcohol abuse

(Ball & Bax, 2002).

Importance of improving personal wellbeing

• -You will be healthier, happier, and can better care for your patients

• -Study done by Frank et. Al (2002) concluded who have modified their own health behavior and who perceive themselves as healthy are more likely to screen and counsel patients regarding prevention

• The prevalence of screening and counseling remains higher among these physicians, due to their increased comfort with pertinent health information, awareness of potential barriers to change, capability to assess patient readiness to change, and interest in behavioral preventive medicine (Frank et al., 2002)

Model of Wellness encompasses 6 dimensions:

• Physical (ex. working out regularly, adopting healthier diets (low salt, more fruits and veggies, swimming, walking to school etc.)

• Emotional (ex. sharing feelings, psychiatrist, managing stress/anger, cessation of nail biting, road rage)

• Spiritual (ex. meditation, church, non-religious spirituality)

• Social (ex. socializing more with family and friends who are no in the same academic situation)

• Occupational (ex. not procrastinating, plan for studying)

• Intellectual (ex. reading a book unrelated to medical issues)

Stages of Change Model (Change is a process, not an event):

• Pre-contemplation

• Contemplation

• Preparation

• Action

• Maintenance

Tips for change:

• Add the behavior change to your daily routine

• Understand that temporary distractions or setbacks are inevitable; accept them and get back to your program when you can

• Recognize barriers to achieving your goal and set up ways to avoid or deal with them

• Celebrate your successes by writing them down

• Participate in a support group. If you cannot find one, start
