Some of the research on personalities that have been helpful is the research done on twins. Twins were used to see the differences that they have due to their genetic makeup is considered to be similar. Researchers did realize that twins that are identical and twins that are fraternal do have different genes. Identical twins are suggested to be a copy of each other and what differences that were detected was due to their environment (Cervone & Pervin, 2010). It was believe that because identical twins had the same genetics then their personalities would also be the same. Fraternal twins are also suggested to copy each other’s genetics and personality. It is suggested that twins that grow up together in the same home and environment are almost alike and the differences are almost non-existing.
There are cases where twins will seem more different to others because of their expectations or their way of thinking that twins should act. Identical twins can act, think, react, and feel the same as their identical brother or sister. Fraternal twins have of the same similarities as identical twins, but they may not share some of the same traits as identical twins. Fraternal twins did not live in the same sack for nine months and they do not have the bond that identical twins share.
Temperament also plays a role in a person’s personality. It can also describe an individual’s behavior, comprehensiveness, and emotion that is considered to be stable for a person. A person’s personality can be outlined by temperament. Lego blocks are used to build things with and each block adds personality to the object in progress. It is the same with a person each trait adds to a person’s personality such as extroversion and introversion. Depending on the factor that a person faces their temperament can be positive or negative and sometimes may be both depending on the factors in place and the environment that the person is in at the time (Rothbart, Ahadi, & Evans, 2000).
A person’s personality can be influence in many different ways and in many different factors. Some factors can be a person’s environment, genetics, and culture. If it is their genetic factor then it can differ due to the age of the person and their temperamental traits. As discussed females and males will have different traits. Females are considered to be academically, act right in society, and will not act out when things go wrong. Males will be more of a risk taker and will get more apt to get frustrated when things go wrong in life. A person’s culture will play a role in a person’s personality no matter where they are from.
Personality helps define who we are. When a person knows themselves and knows what is considered to be normal then they will show it through their actions. Actions are considered to be the way they talk, behave, and the respect that they show others. A person will take their que from others around them. The big five took many theories and put them together to define a person. No one is the same and their personalities are not the same. Identical twins and fraternal twins participated in many studies and while they are similar each has their own unique way of doing things. They try to behave in the right manors, but they can also surprise others by being unique and themselves.
