Most importantly, Guide Set Pro can solve the above difficulties smoothly. Firstly, camera and radar can do great job in detecting road condition. Radar will send out waves and bounce back when encounters any obstacles. Camera will also record the road condition. The stick will vibrate in response to findings. The stick will vibrate more intensively if the user gets closer and closer to the obstacles. Once changes like widening or narrowing of roads are found, the tiny Braille typewriter in the shoes will translate the situation. Our target group can feel the words by feet.
Secondly, the shoes will reproduce the tactile guide on the floor brick. Strip, small dots and big dots are the universal signs of tactile guide having different meanings. The pair of special shoes will reproduce these by the Braille typewriter. A clearer picture of the surrounding will be shown. Our target group will know more about the current situation by a familiar way. Even the deaf cannot hear, they can also notice a traffic light is ahead by these tactile guides.
All these allow our users to have a longer reaction time. So that, our target group can use the guidance provided by the stick to solve real life cases easier, safely and thoroughly.
4.Personnel of Project
There will be a group of researchers and developers led by our chief researchers Mr Li. What Mr Li and his group are going to do is just to combine the radar and camera in a single guide stick. Furthermore, we will ask help from Mr Law who is a top technician for the modeling of the guide stick. He will be able to monitor the modeling and fine tuning of the guide stick well. Both Mr Li and Mr Law will be responsible for the quality controls. Mrs Fung, the head of manufacturing department, will follow the coordination of the whole project.
5.Schedule for implementation
Stage1: Research and development—although the radar and camera on guide stick already exists, Mr Li and his team have to comply the two together. Also, they will try their best to minimize error rate of both radar and camera at this stage. At the same time, Mr Law will try to find out a suitable modeling that the stick will have the best resistance.
Stage2: Experiment—this stage is to apply the technology developed in the above stage into practical use. Trial and error method will be used in this stage to fine tune the competence of the radar, camera and stick. Our aim is to find out the best state that results in less than 2% error rate.
Stage3: Testing—the best Guide set Pro prototype will be sent out to our target group for real life testing. The objective is to see whether Guide Set Pro is practical and at its best state or not. Moreover, we wish to collect users’ feedbacks for amending or adding new functionalities into Guide Set Pro.
Stage4: Revision—in this stage, Guide Set Pro will be checked again technically and intensively to make sure that it fulfills the quality requirement. Modification will also be done in request of users’ feedbacks in previous stage. After all, Guide Set Pro will be lunched to the market.
6.Budget
In this product development, major costs would be the material cost and research and development cost. The R&D team has to spend HKD$ 50,000 to mix the two existing technologies into a single stick. Material cost comes second with HKD$ 20,000. A bulk amount of stainless steel would be used to test the best mixture of content for the guide stick. Remaining HKD$ 10,000 would be reserved for transportation cost in delivering products. The last HKD$ 20,000 will be the miscellaneous fund. It is prepared for Mr Li, Mr Law and Mrs Fung to use in welfare part like suppers. All people involved in the project are hired by our firms as usual staffs, so no extra salary would be incurred.
