Hugh should also consider relinquishing that managerial position because it is bringing more losses than gains. He should take up that position and send that external manager home. This will save on the expenses that has skyrocketed from 24000 in 2003 to 39000 in 2008. This will save the firm a lot of costs. Hugh should take control of his business alone because this will make him get in touch with the customers and also the amount of attention he will give his business cannot be compared to the one an external manager will give to his firm. If he is able to invest this money on incidentals, sponsoring public meetings and the likes then maybe he can be able to attract new customers to the pub and this will help towards increasing his profits.
The firm should also develop new ways of motivating employees. Instead of demotivating them by taking away entertainment fees and sending the home they should be made to sign contracts that assure them that they are safe in those jobs. Together with that they should be given remuneration and motivational packages that may include bonuses and extra pay for extra work done. This will ensure the workers give the customers proper services and this will translate to profit. This is because proper motivation will bring along morale in the workers and this will in turn create good service provision in the pub which will therefore bring along customer satisfaction and this will mean that the customers will keep coming and loyalty will be created hence a steady flow of income.
Recommendation
I recommend that Hugh maintain most of the workers that were there for a long time this people have a considerable amount of experience and this experience will be of help building the pub going forward
I also suggest that Hugh remove that managerial position and take over as the head of the firm himself. If he prefers to be hands off he can retain the position but look for somebody that is able to take less pay than the current manager.
I also suggest that Hugh builds more pubs or creates more pubs around Milville to counter the growing population and the increasing number of new pubs that keep coming up each day.
I also suggest that Hugh should carry on with the renovation of the place to give it a new facelift. This will go a long way in attracting new customers and retaining the current and also give Leeds Livery an edge over the other pubs around the place.
Last but not least I suggest Hugh returns the tradition of the pub where it participated in community events and competitions. This will go a long way in rebranding itself and selling itself out there for the public to see. The benefits associated with such is increased customer base and increased profits.
