Talent development
==========
According to the Journal of World of Business, the concept of talent could be defined as “systematically developed innate abilities of individuals that are deployed in activities they like, find important, and in which they want to invest energy. It enables individuals to perform excellently in one or more domains of human functioning, operationalized as performing better than other individuals of the same age or experience, or as performing consistently at their personal best.” Therefore if a business is thinking in selecting people for a job, talent would be an issue which may differentiate between the workers. (Nijs et al). Though there are many advantages and strengths of hiring talented people, there are some other limitations by hiring them (Pranita and Manpreet)
There are many advantages of hiring talented people to your business, as talent contributes to the success of a business and improves the brand image. Also, by hiring talent you reduce the costs in talent development, which can be defined as “refers to the process of developing and integrating new workers, developing and retaining current workers and attracting highly skilled workers to work for a company”.
On the other hand, there are also some limitations when hiring talented people, as wages and salaries of the workers are higher than using untalented workers, as if a high salary is not offered, these talented workers may move to work to other businesses. McCauley et al also states that an important issue in hiring talent is their age as they are normally older and soon they will need to retire.
In Google, the HR director says that "The main goal is to hire the right people,". "Never make do with someone because you're desperate – only hire the best." Google's recruitment process is certainly thorough – given that applicants face a minimum of four interviews and agreement must be unanimous amongst everyone who has interviewed the candidate, "you have to be pretty astounding to get into Google," . Senior staff spend 30 percent of their time on recruitment and the company employs 300 people specifically to focus on hiring the best candidates. (Fletcher)
In conclusion, although hiring talented workers would result costly, it is a good component in order to ensure success and improve the brand image of the company, so therefore, talent is a very important issue in the construction and running of a business.
