Environmental awareness:

[Slide 8]

- Marc Emery’s Cannabis Culture Lounge is animal-friendly. We saw 2 cats on site (Tippy and Buzz) who were adopted 10 years ago from the BC SPCA, and one of the lounge’s rules clearly states that visitors must be nice to the cats. Their new location on Davie St. is also pets-friendly.

- The business follows British Columbia bylaws on a strict basis, therefore no tobacco smoking is allowed inside, and mixing tobacco with marijuana is strictly banned. It also reduces second hand smoke by restricting the consumption of marijuana inside the building

- Marc Emery’s Cannabis Culture Lounge heavily promotes the use of vaporizers, which is acclaimed to be the most healthy way to smoke weed. This is because when marijuana is ignited and smoked, about 88% of the substances inhaled can contain cancer causing toxins. It is not the cannabis plant itself that has toxic by-products but rather the smoke caused by combustion. Using a vaporizing device eliminates the majority of these harmful chemicals, because little to no smoke is produced during the process.

Diversity:

[Slide 9]

- The lounge’s employees come from different cultural and social backgrounds. From our visit, the staff described having a lenient hiring policy in terms of required skills and past experience. They hire candidates based on availability and the turnover, candidates will be considered as long as they are enthusiastic about cannabis culture.

Recommendations:

[Slide 10]

Based on our analysis, we came up several recommendations to further enhance Marc Emery’s Cannabis Culture Lounge’s vision and strategy.

- First of all, we suggest the lounge to improve their hiring process. Although having a lenient policy supports the business’ welcoming culture, in the long run, it’s more efficient Implement more specific/concrete qualifications, perform background checks, stricter screening process

- Better way to differentiate Marc Emery’s Lounge and New Amsterdam Cafe by giving it a more unique name

- Since it’s still technically illegal to sell marijuana in Canada, we recommend Marc Emery’s Lounge to hold off selling pot and wait to obtain proper certification to avoid legal complications

- Marijuana can be used in cooking!! The lounge can diversify their business by providing marijuana-infused food like cake and pasta drinks...for example…(show a recipe or two). this will be appealing for customers who are new to cannabis culture.

Conclusion:

“on top of different types of equipment, blaze culture is also represented by 420, which is a counterculture holiday in north america where cannabis enthusiasts come together on April 20th"
