Assignment 1
Task 1: Searching for a job
I have chosen a job offer from Airbus webpage. It consists of an internship at the Quality Department of Defence and Space division.
Task 3: Application questions
Question 1: Why you would like to be considered for the post? Do you have the skills and personal qualities required?
I am truly interested in this job because it requires being constantly in contact with the aircraft. It might be necessary to combine knowledge about airworthiness issues, non conformities on aircraft and understanding drawings, and apply them to solve daily problems that can appear unexpectedly. I find it really interesting and exciting. Moreover, I did a short internship that has relation with this job so I already know the procedures that are carried out by the Quality function in Military Aircraft.
In relation to why I’d like to be considered for the job, I think that I have a very proactive attitude and I’m willing to get involved in the job tasks as much as I can in order to ensure their success. Furthermore, I am a dynamic and drive person so I will get to the bottom of the problems and defects that can affect the aircraft quality and find the better way to resolve them. In addition, I also have an aptitude for teamwork and I’m collaborative, so I’m disposed to work together with inspectors and even learn from their experiences. I’m constant and a hardworker thus I’ll be completely committed to the job.
Question 2: What do you know about this company?
Airbus is known worldwide for being a reference in aeronautics. Its products and manufacturing methods are continuously improved and they use the newest technologies available. A good example of this is that more than the 50% of the A350 structure is currently made of composite.
Frequently, Airbus is associated just with planes but it offers more products. In fact, there are three divisions that form Airbus Group. Airbus Operations is where civil planes are designed and manufactured. I had the opportunity to visit the Getafe facilities where the A350 HTP and Section 19 are manufactured and it’s very interesting. Secondly, Airbus Helicopters is dedicated to, as suggested by its name, helicopters. Its main factory is placed in Albacete. Finally, Airbus Defence and Space is where this job is developed and where I did my internship. The space part is placed in Barajas so Getafe is totally dedicated to Military Aircraft. There, I had the chance to work with two military planes: the A400M and the Eurofighter. On the one hand, in Getafe they carry out the Eurofighter right hand wing manufacturing and its Final Assembly Line. On the other hand, the Maintenance and Overhaul Centre is currently committed to the A400M Retrofit program. They repair unexpected defects and some airframes that are repetitively damaged due to structural shortcomings.
Another Airbus characteristic is its continuous investigation about innovative gadgets, such as drones used for maintenance inspections or autonomous flying taxis.
