An example of this is putting pressure on their suppliers to reduce prices and will in the unions to reduce wage demands. Expenses such as rent and marketing are also on the cutting cake. Companies can seek other options for reducing rental costs, as leasing unused office space to small companies. Also, they can cut costs in their marketing strategy reducing the number of ads. Likewise, they can reduce costs by restricting travel to management.

When a company has decided to use the strategy of rightsizing, there are several laws and regulations that are to be taken in to account. According to Heneman and Judge (2009), these include the following:

• Public policy restrictions on employment-at-will

• Employment discrimination laws and regulations

• Affirmative action requirements

• Employment contract principles

• Labor contract provisions

• Civil service laws and regulations

• Negligent supervision and retention

• Advanced warning about plan closing

Every company should know and understand these laws and regulations, to avoid legal actions from unhappy ex-employees that were separated from the company in the process of the rightsizing.

According to Heneman and Judge (2009), there are four sequential steps in the human resources planning that include: determine future requirements, determine future availabilities, reconcile requirements and availabilities, and develop action plans to close the projected gaps.

As well, in this process the company has to take the initial decision of what they want to accomplish. Then, they have to create their strategic planning; in it the company has to evaluate their current state, their goal and the gap between these. The company needs to establish their planning time frame.

The company needs to keep focus of their goals at all time and measure their success in the process. Rightsizing is not an easy process, but at the end the company will achieve success.
