Though all teacher respondents mentioned that they were aware of the attendance policies and practices in the interview data, they agreed that the school could do more to handle specific issues at the departmental and school level. 10% (Ten percent) of those respondents also mentioned that they did not know about the newly initiated mentoring program for at-risk students.
Interview data from the Principal confirmed (confirm) that ‘attendance’ had the least priority in the last three years compared to other initiatives. That was (is probably) due to the increasing focus on increasing academic attainment (?? Meaning not clear). The Principal agreed that ‘attendance’ must be highly prioritized as it is linked to academic achievement. The data (findings from xxx also) confirmed (confirm) that all students, parents, teachers and the Principal welcomed(welcome) more communication about attendance expectations.
The school had decreased (has decreased) student attendance rates and liking for school by removing incentives previously offered.
(merge this with the last paragraph) The data showed that a student reward scheme for attending a target number of school days was removed at the end of 2015. 95% of student respondents said they liked like the student reward scheme and wanted want it to be reinitiated. Most of the students interviewed highlighted that they were motivated to go to school when the scheme was in place. They cited that they had goals to meet and were challenged.
Data from teachers also confirmed that students seemed to attend school more when the scheme was in place though the rewards such as stationery gifts carry little monetary value. Both The teachers and students suggested giving certificates of recognition and food coupons for meeting the target attendance rate. The data revealed Findings from the survey and interviews confirm that removing incentives previously offered had decreased /has decreased student attendance rates.
The school minimally monitored and followed up on student absences.
Can move this to the end of the last paragraph. The survey data showed show that 60% of student respondents mentioned that their teachers did not really follow up on one-day absences. They mentioned in the interview that teachers tend tended to follow up on absences of three days or more. The students highlighted that they prefer preferred teachers to ask about their absences even it was just for a day. Most parent respondents mentioned in the interview that they wanted the school to support them in situations involving change such as when their children move moved from sixth grade to secondary school. Data from teacher interviews revealed reveal that they did not take attendance regularly nor follow up on all absences due to hectic schedules and workload, and the current practices of absences which had has little or no consequences. The data revealed reveal that monitoring and follow-up on student absences are minimal.
Findings from xxx show that All teachers welcomed (welcome) the idea that the school inform parents about their attendance records weekly or monthly through a student attendance management system if their workload were reduced. (what does it mean??) The Principal, in the interview data, mentioned that she would consider assessing (decreasing) teacher workload to ensure consistent monitoring and follow-up on student absences.
The findings from TCW Memorial School were similar with those found in the other 10 schools within the district.
