Furthermore, past innovations in global positioning system (GPS) technology had changed the way courier service firms operate. In this current age, courier service firms like, City-Link, DHL Worldwide Express, and FedEx use GPS tracker to monitor the whereabouts of their fleet, to save costs and to optimize time on the road with real-time route updates that equip them to bypass traffic jams and construction-related delays. Next, manufacturing firms that use innovative machines can help them to reduce waste, costs, energy, and time. For example, Nestlé adopted the innovative multifunctional machine in their production process, in which it had improved their efficiency in operations.

From an organizational perspective, innovative employees can increase productivity by creating and executing new processes, which in turn may increase the competitive advantage and provide meaningful differentiation for the organization. For example, Nestlé strongly encourages all employees to adopt and improve their innovative manufacturing technologies in supporting their production processes, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), and system integration software (Nestlé, 2011). From a managerial perspective, innovative employees have a tendency to be more motivated and involved in the organization. Engaging employees to innovate and improve their work processes provides a sense of self-sufficiency that support job satisfaction, which then can also improve the productivity of the organization (Boundless, 2015).

3. The Implications of Lacking Creativity and Innovation

First of all, employers have less faith on employees who lack creativity and innovation. This is because employees who are not creative are less likely able to handle ambiguous and uncertain situations. If things don’t go according to their plan, employees who lack creativity and innovation will feel very anxious as they are unable to generate or find solutions to overcome the problem. Next, employees who have low levels of creativity and innovation also tend to resist change. Employees who resist change tend to prefer a set routine and believe that changing will make them lose something of value (Kotelnikov, n.d.). Nevertheless, creativity and innovation are highly needed skills for employees in this ever changing world. Besides that, employees who lack creativity will feel uncomfortable to learn and experience new things. It is very important for an employee to adapt themselves and continually learn in this changing world. Being afraid to step out from his or her comfort zone will cause the employee to be left out.

Nowadays, innovation and creativity are very important elements for an organization to be successful due to globalization, complex business environment and changing customer needs. In other words, creative and innovative ideas are factors that differentiate an organization with their competitors, because it enhances their core competency to produce something better than its competitors (Naiman, 2014). Employers need to have employees who are creative and innovative with the intention of generating their own opinions and ideas. Employees who are innovative tend to learn from mistakes, because they are able to view things in many different perspectives. However, employees who lack creativity and innovation have a tendency to be afraid to make changes, although they have failed on the same thing several times. This makes them unable to improve their performance in the workplace. In short, employees who lack creativity and innovation are likely harder to find jobs when compared to those that are creative and innovative.

In general, employees who lack creativity and innovation reflect that he or she has a low self-confidence. A person who has low self-confidence will tend to avoid challenges as they cannot accept the downturn and unhappiness faced if they fail (Rogers, 2014). Low self-esteem can be a barrier for a person to achieve success. For example, lack of self-confidence will make a person feel doubtful regarding to his or her own ability. Hence, he or she may find it very difficult to get motivated to achieve goals as he or she had assumed themselves will fail at first. Furthermore, people who lack of innovative skill tend to be more dependent on others. This makes them unable to complete tasks and make decisions individually.
