Cloth track is a layer of sound the clothing rustles as they walk, run and moves. This track also called as “Moves Track”. When we move or walk or even wave our hands; we make noise. This track covers this kind of effects. This track fills the gaps in the sound when the picture is cut and ADR is used. This track of cloth is recorded on a single track throughout the entire movie. The idea is to watch the screen and move as actor moves and capture all the action on the screen in one fluid motion from cut to cut and scene to scene. For recording this track quiet room is essential. Mike should be three feet in front of the Foley artist. Quiet room is important because even the smallest background noises can pickup and record so at the end of result it should sound smooth but the clear white noise allowing the mixer a base coat the sound. It helps the sound editor to design the sound for the characters and it sets the overall tone of the Foley track (M.P.S.E., 1995).

Foley track also includes other effects such as door opening and closing, doorbell rings. However these effects mostly done by using effects which are already in stock (Foley(filmmaking)). Anything a character is touching or doing is considered as a specific effect. Foley artist use a separate elements to record these kinds of effects. It’s actually a real fun in recording these other effects; body falls, punches. There is lot of work in other effects. Foley artist use many props for this track because it’s impossible to say what artist will need until he watch the film. When it comes to recording these effects, Foley artist needs to create separate track for each sound. Some tracks last long the whole of the scene while some effects are short. So before recording an effect, planning the track is important (M.P.S.E., 1995).

Recording a real sound on location cannot give the effect that sound engineer needs to mix when dubbing. These sounds are simply not enough they always come up with all sort of noise around the set like crowed noise, wind (Amalia de Go ̈tzen). For example, if two men are walking over concrete surface and having conversation it’s hard to record all three sounds. Boom operator records the dialogue and even if he tries to record the sound of their footsteps and sound of their cloths rustling, the recording he will get it will not come up with the ay it actually sound. The reason behind this is most of the shooting sets are crowded. If the shooting is out you will get lot of wind noise while recording even the placing microphones to record such effects is hard. It’s impossible to put two or three microphones to record these effects while shooting.

Foley effects add realism and depth to the track. They are easy to produce and record. They simplify the synchronizing of sounds (Stinson, 7). There are few effects which we cannot produce or even if we produce we dint get the proper effect and that time we can use real sound but often after recording the real time sound it’s very difficult to listen the proper sound without noise. Both the sounds are remarkably different from each other. Finally it’s worth pointing out that Foley sound effects are better than recording real sound on location.
