‘That is a tattoo, Dorian! Where did you manage to get such a thing? I am confused. Are you not aware of how society thinks of these today ? I am at a loss for words.’
Before Henry was able to say anything, Dorian moved his hand up in the sign to stop, and got closer to the two to show them his arm. ‘Look, I know exactly how you feel right now, as I felt the same at first, but believe me, you will get used to it. Now, onto the interesting part. I need to tell you the significance of this tattoo. Look, can you see this band that circles around my arm ? This is called “Hikuaua” in the Maori language. I was told by the inhabitants that it brings prosperity to anyone who wears it.’
Henry spoke up. ‘Dorian, this is fantastic! I do not care what society has to say, I believe this tattoo is splendid.’
‘Splendid ? Henry, have you gone mad ? That is a tattoo. Can you imagine the effect it could have on Dorian’s image... And Dorian, how could you do such a thing to yourself ?‘
‘Now, let’s not argue about the tattoo, my friend.’ Said Henry in a condescending way. ‘There is nothing that can be done about it now. And if I may say so, I think this adds to the character of our friend, as it distinguishes him from the rest of the society. Don’t you think so too, Dorian ?’
‘You are right.’ Answered Dorian.
‘Forgive me.’ Uttered Basil, frustrated by the two. ‘I should probably take my leave. If you’ll excuse me.’ With that, he took his coat and left the room.
