In conclusion, the use of recycled water to supplement drinking water supplies offers a significant new source of water. Advanced water treatment technologies and government policy are protecting our public health. Social research indicates that most people can overcome the stigma associated with this issue. Communities around the world are participating in water programs that conserve freshwater supplies and provide environmentally responsible alternatives to disposal of wastewater by recycling water for drinking purposes. Water recycling for the sole purpose of providing healthy and safe drinking water, is one step toward solving the water crisis. We still need to improve our water management and protection on a much larger scale. The

global aspect of our water shortage can be overwhelming to the individual. In Martin Keogh’s collection of essays titled, Hope Beneath Our Feet: Restoring Our Place in the Natural World, the message is clear. If enough people do their part, however small, eventually our individual efforts will come together and have the ability to alter our declining environment and change the state of our world.
