a female with the thought of reproduction. Thornhill and palmer goes on to say that “women should also be advised that the way they dress may put them at risk. (page 3) No women should have to change the way she dresses because a man can’t control his sexual thought, sexual arousal should not get to the point where it leads to sexual violence. The average rapist is a violent criminal who craves complete power over his victim. It has little to do with what a woman looks like and everything to do with violent, criminal tendencies. According to Cnn.com, sexual assault is the only crime that the perpetrator blames the victim according to Linda Fairstein who prosecuted sex crimes for 30 years(page 2). Linda Fairstein explains that throughout her career almost every victim she came across were not dressed provocatively and some were children and elderly. So where would the perpetrator find sexual arousal from children’s clothing and the way an elderly person may dress? According to the U.S Department of Justice, 1 in 4 rapes take place in the victim’s home (page 2).

This statement basically says that a sibling raped another sibling. The myth that the way one may dress causes rape does not match the statement given about rape occurring in a victim’s home. The victim sees their perpetrator everyday and somehow the perpetrator gets aroused on how the victim dresses. A rape victim may want to reach out for help but afraid what others might say. In one article, it states that a police officer told the rape victim that she should’ve worn something “ less slutty.”(page 2). Therefore the myth of the way one may dress causes rape is a derogatory statement and is offensive towards women. Clothes are not a risk factor, it’s being in the presence of a rapist that’s a risk factor.
Many victims of rape may want to seek help but are afraid of what might happen to them especially if the rape occurs inside their home. They try not to report it to the police because they think they won’t get justice. There are many rapists out because one may refuse to tell someone.
Plus, there are many after effects of sexual assault. The victim may feel alone, depressed, angry, and they may feel it’s their fault, which it isn’t. According to Joyful Heart Foundation, sexual assault may cause self esteem issues and the victim may feel a certain way about their body (page 3). If a rape victims says something to the police, it may relieve them of all the pressure and stress that was put upon them.
In conclusion, sexual assault is a crime where one forces another into sex. Many may say that sexual assault happens because one may dress provocative, but that definitely isn’t the case. This statement is offensive towards women and says that it is the woman’s fault for a man to be controlling and rape them.

Rape can occur because the perpetrator is intoxicated and may be to aggressive.
This shows that alcohol consumption plays a huge role in sexual assault. The question about both parties being intoxicated making it consensual is false. In order for it to be consensual both parties have to at least know what is going on at the moment. Many perpetrators have done time in prison or jail and may still have the same aggressive mindset that they had in jail. This causes them to go after someone vulnerable as they would if they were in jail. Sexual assault is a crime where the perpetrator blames the victim and it definitely isn’t the victim’s fault that they have gotten assaulted. Many victims may feel signs of depression and have self- esteem issues after being sexually assaulted, but many victims refuse to not report to the police. If the victim reports it to the police there would be viewer rapists and the victim may feel a sigh of relief.
