The most interesting and shocking part of this study is only 24% of the children diagnosed with Asthma continued to have asthma throughout the follow-up appointments. This because childhood Asthma can go into remission. Unfortunately, just like any other disease being in remission means the disease is dormant but there is always a possibility for relapse. Another interesting fact was just being male is a risk factor for childhood asthma development until at least age 10 years.
I actually gained optimism from this article. It was so in depth and statistically broken down. I understood the chances of my son growing out of this disease is kind of high. I realize that he has been in remittance since September of 2014, something I have never comprehended. After reading this article I realize his body is working hard to keep him in optimal health. I am usually so worried about his next attack, I don’t notice the blessing in front of me. I need to recognize these moments of him living a “normal life” by embracing his remittance. Just learning as the relapses get further apart he is a step closer to growing out of childhood Asthma is giving me plenty of hope. This article has inspired me to monitor and track his remittance and relapse phases. Hopefully within a few more years his flare-ups will be non-existent!
