The purpose of this story was to teach humanity that Jesus is the Messiah. His intentions were to administer a sermon about His sovereign power to cure, heal and grant forgiveness. His aim was to pass the message of God to a group of nonbelievers in hopes of changing their worldview. Then, Jesus reached out to a paralyzed man among the group, which instantly quieted the negative chatter. Jesus healed the man's paralysis by the man's wish for forgiveness and once granted, the Messiah healed the man's paralysis before the group. Jesus then justifies that it is preferable to forgive the sins to heal. Meanwhile, He instilled more beliefs through a ministry of messages that preached he is the son of God and has the same power to ‘forgive’ sins, heal, and minister more sermons for His new followers (Weitnauer, 2013).

- How would you personally answer Jesus’ question, “But who do you say that I am?” Describe your own beliefs about Jesus.

My personal beliefs are that Jesus in my savior and the son of the creator of all existence; thus, as a Christian with stern moral values, I have never doubted that Jesus was not the Son of God in the first place. But if I were asked by Jesus, “But who do you say that I am?” I would respond that you are the Messiah sent here to preach God’s word to help those who have fallen and did not believe. I would also say that I am a believer and stand by Him. My beliefs are that Jesus provides me with strength when I am weak and forgives me for my sins through confessional prayer. My most dominant view of all is the power of prayer as I do it all of the time. My son often asks me why I am talking to myself, and I say, “I’m talking to the Lord.” In The 21st Century King James Version of Proverbs in chapter 3 pretty much sums up my beliefs about Jesus:

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding; in all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5-6)
