as being the same, which make it easier to connect thoughts to one another. They also have vivid imaginations and can experience their thoughts as reality. These skills often help students excel at art, math, and science.

Controversies

In my research, I came across several articles claiming that dyslexia does not exist. I understand where the professor Joe Elliot (2015) is coming from when he talks about the diagnosis is inconsistent. Although, he must not understand what it is like to be dyslexic. It is a very real thing from many accounts of people who report the same things, words flying across pages and letters jumbling up while reading, people becoming disoriented while trying to focus on words, and people unable to learn to associate letters and words with sounds. He made a good point about “the only thing we can actually do for students with dyslexia is give them interventions.” He said that the same interventions are the same for students with reading difficulties as are those with dyslexia, so when a student has dyslexia, he or she should just be classified under the more umbrella term of reading difficulties. His point of ridding the distinction is an interesting way of going about it, although, if a student is having more difficulties is schooling than just reading than he is in turn making more work for the teacher. If a teacher has a student with dyslexia it will make things easier for the teacher to do the intervention and catch it before the student falls to far behind. Dyslexia is a real disorder and many people have this disorder.

Conclusion

Life with dyslexia is hard to overcome and it is very hard to learn if you haven’t found what you are good at. For a dyslexic growing up, they need a strong support system of parents, friends, and teachers in order to succeed and progress through their education until they have found what they are good at, once they find this they will set goals because their mind can see short-term goals as part of a long-term plan, and they will start progressing on their own. Sometimes it is hard to view it as a gift, but I have grown to appreciate my dyslexia and hope that I can help others view it as I do.
