There are several methods on how we can gather data. Examples are; telephone surveys, online surveys, focus groups, and surveys on websites. Each method has both advantages and disadvantages. The telephone survey provides an advantage because it is private, confidential, and a cheap way to gather information. The disadvantage is since you can’t see the person on the phone, they could be lying about the information they are giving you. Online surveys have the advantage of allowing you to gather information from people all around the world. The disadvantage of online surveys are not many people are interested in them, and also lie about their responses. Focus groups have an advantage when it comes to gathering a lot of information from a big group of people at one time. The disadvantage of focus groups is that it is very time consuming to gather all of this information. Web studies have methodological problems; for example, higher rates of drop out and of repeated participation. Web studies must be thoroughly analyzed and tested before launching on-line (Birnbaum, M. H. (2004). If I had to choose between online surveys, focus groups, and telephone surveys I would chose focus groups. I understand it may take longer to gather the information, but I would like to see the people I am asking questions to.

Conclusion

In conclusion, research is a very important part of human services. It helps ensure that the services being provided are consistent with the changes in society, clients, and the community. Any data that is collected needs to be organized and categorized in order to provide human services with accurate, reliable, and correct information.
