A: Nearly no job will hire a sex offender. There are hard manual labor jobs that pay nearly nothing and they work you like a slave. Those are the jobs that 60 year old men have to work because there’s nothing else.
These people have college degrees, some people have master’s degrees, and now they’re working on production lines because of that. It’s not easy to have a graduate degree and then have it removed.
You have no hope of being anything better and the reason for that is because businesses are scared” (UCentral Student Media). This man lost all chances at big opportunities, despite his hard work. Though the man never gave his reasoning for being charged, he believes it was unconstitutional. He served his punishment once, but as a citizen he still deserves his rights; he believes the punishment just doesn’t end. He was questioned if he believes there are second chances for sex offenders. His response was simply no. Unless your registry is lifted, it just follows you for life. There is no forgiveness and no hope. (UCentral Student Media).
If you consider all the points I’ve hit, it would only make sense for people to repel away from sex offenders. Most people just don’t see any sense of being around a potential danger like a sex offender. Little does society know, that by completely restricting the basic aspects of life from a sex offender, that they may be stirring up bigger conflicts. There is a debate called “Nature vs. Nature” in which an individual reacts a certain way based on their role in society. So if someone grew up in a more educational rounded society, and displays a role of some kind of importance, then statistically, they are less likely to commit a crime. Vise Versa, if an individual has grown up in not as much of an educational rounded society, and they don’t have much of a role in society, statistics show they are more likely to commit crimes (Adam Himebauch). So in reference to that, we aren’t helping sex offenders by restricting them by so much. Of course limits and boundaries are necessary, but are we crossing them? When a sex offender is restricted from so much, it’s likely that they may be more tempted to commit another crime for a lot of different reasons. Safety is important, but when a person wakes up in the morning knowing they’ll most likely never even get a chance for a greater life, then that causes a whole bunch of other problems. Statistics show that the number of tier 1 sex offenders, which is a group of minor cases of sex offense, registered by each state have increased annually (UCentral Student Media). This means something isn’t right about the way sex offenders are dealt with. Sex offenders are looked down at so much that there have been cases where they have been denied employment as a garbage man. Trash is disgusting, and the job itself is looked down at by society. If a sex offender can’t get a job as a garbage man, than what hope is there to employment (Florida Action Committee). Being registered as a sex offender is absolutely one of the most frowned upon positions in society, and there is no redemption.
Today, many groups of people are deciding if some of the sex offender requirements are constitutional or unconstitutional. While many are leaning towards unconstitutional, there are still a fair amount of hate groups on the down low. There are tons of different hate groups for tons of different things, but one group in particular took notice. A man named Jeremy Moody, and his wife, members of a hate group called “Crew 41” killed a middle-aged couple. The male was allegedly a sex offender. When Moodly was questioned about why he killed the male, he said he found his name in a sex offender registry (Hatewatch Staff). The murders’ in this case had a history of violence, but never the less they targeted a sex offender. The man who was murdered could’ve been convicted of something minor. In result he is dead due to registration.
The unconstitutional laws have led to more problems than solutions. Being a successful economy isn’t about pointing fingers and putting blame and shame on individuals, it’s about solving the problems and moving forward. In result of the current laws, we have increased crime rates in the relevant category. We have hopeless individuals who can’t contribute to society because they are shunned by every person who knows anything about their past. These unjust laws carry with these individuals forever, diminish all of their accomplishments, and flush their reputation and repel everyone away. We can open doors to a brighter future by involving the shunned individuals in our society, and re-creating the registration laws so that the conviction is constitutional and just.
