the same, claims and yet, today, we dismiss these people as insane. Why was Jesus not dismissed as insane? Perhaps the answer lies in the opinion that 1) people were more primitive in thought and experience in Jesus’ day than we are some centuries later and/or 2) that Jesus was simply a flesh and blood human man. While I believe that the human man Jesus did exist—he was born, he lived and he died— I do not believe in his divinity. But, for those who do believe, I ask this question from The DaVinci Code, “Why can’t human be divine?” In the context of putting emphasis on the supposed miracles performed by this man, Jesus, we are told (in the textbook and in the Bible) that he performed such miracles in private and then asked the recipients to never disclose who had performed the miracle. A Non-believer can only assume from these statements that either he was a fraud or the “recipient” was nothing but a storyteller. Perhaps he was a mystic, a magician of sorts, or a con artist, but in my opinion he was simply a human man. Regardless, he did not want emphasis placed on these supposed miracles, so if he is so revered and honored, why can’t the religion he created honor his wishes after death?

In conclusion, we should not place emphasis on the “miracles” of Jesus because they do not exist. These supposed miracles are merely stories passed done from a generation of people who lived during the time Jesus was alive. Like the game of telephone, when you whisper in someone’s ear and that person whispers in the next person’s ear until you have gone all the way around the circle and what you started with is never how it comes out in the end, this is likely the case with the supposed miracles performed by Jesus Christ. If such miracles could happen, why have they stopped? Why hasn’t anyone since Jesus had these divine gifts bestowed upon them? And if it is because Jesus was supposedly the son of God, then why doesn’t God heal everyone who has terminal cancer? Why does God let children, mothers, fathers, die from terminal illness? Is He simply too busy? Have they “sinned” and been deemed unworthy of healing? Or is it that miracles and divinity simply do not exist other than as a means to keep a large community of people subservient and fearful? The “miracles” of Jesus should be seen as nothing more than great material for storytelling and folklore and should not be emphasized by believers or non-believers.
