applications” and this is as one of the methods so say for increasing students interest in learning (p. 342). In all reality, if students can see that the lessons can relate to our normal life and we can apply it to our daily lives. The students are more likely to understand and grasp the material that way.
Third, my way of progressive philosophy of education would affect my teaching plan of action is by being able to lead and include the student’s interests into the activity lessons. In an example to be more specific in that of an American History class example, if I knew that Michael wanted to be a police officer then I would have loved to included that in the lesson about something astonishing about a police officer to keep the students’ interest. Dewey, (1913), the patriarch of progressive education, advised that “new material be presented in such a way as to enable the child to appreciate...its value in connection with what already has significance for him” (p. 24). Students are more likely to be more in tuned to what is going on in the lessons or classroom activities if the teachers connect their interests to what is be taught within the lessons and such, which will be exciting to them when they notice it’s of interest to them (students).
In conclusion, I would utilize my progressive philosophy of education through and in the classroom by involving the students through actively asking questions and getting them interested in activities that make learning fun. Also, by helping them understand how the lessons have to do with them personally and their lives and incorporating their interests into to each child as a whole while acknowledge that you do take interest in them (students) and care about their future. I hope that in way that the students find learning fun and exciting in such a way as I did when a teacher took interest in me personally. It makes a world of difference to know that every student in the class matters and is accepted. The student as I am one look to the professors and teachers growing up as my supporter that they would believe in me that I could do anything that I would put my mind too, though I have a learning disability. It wasn’t until high school that teachers took interest in my studies and had faith in me to do anything if I would apply myself.
