Zeus and his Olympians waged a war called the Titanomachy against the Titans to overthrow their rule. Zeus won the battle along with his allies: The Titans Prometheus, Epimetheus, the Cyclopes, and the Hecatoncheires. Zeus then exiled the Titans that fought against him.

Later, Prometheus was given the task of creating creatures of the Earth that exhibited dvarious qualities. He then created a new race from clay and combined specks of every living creature, molded it together and from that came the Common Man. Prometheus treasured his creation more than Zeus. One day he stole sparks from the fire of the Olympians that was strictly reserved for the gods to use and enjoy. He gave these sparks to the mortals so they could cook and live more comfortably. Prometheus was punished and chained up. Zeus sent Pandora to torment him daily and as a gift he gave her a box that was forbidden to open. Her curiosity got the best of her and she opened it. Doing so released all the evils that plague man and hope which are still present today. Zeus ordered the gods and goddesses to not interfere with mankind to allow them to write their own destiny.

Although this story is very long and somewhat descriptive, I am left questioning how the Earth’s features we created. During the research process, there seemed to be some differences in the story when it was being told be different people. This leads me to believe that what is “true” or the stories details could have been misconstrued throughout time. The story contains incest on multiple occasions which is currently a very controversial topic in our modern society. Also, it is based on the belief of multiple Gods and Goddesses which is also not a very popular belief. As a result, this story has few similarities to creations stories we have previously studied this year. After reading, I can say that this myth does not change my personal beliefs and hasn’t given me a different insight to my way of life. This creation myth is very entertaining but seems very far-fetched to be called a piece of nonfiction.
