Motivation

Patrick Kearney growing up, he did not fit in with society’s standard. Kearney being bullied got him into thinking about what it would feel like to kill a living person. He said that the adult victims that he murdered resembled that school bullies that bullied him when was a child going to school. When he was with David Hill it did not help that they would continue to constantly argue and fight. Hill would leave Kearney multiple times and then come back for the fighting to start again. Kearney’s anger with this often had him going out late at night as a pickup artist at gay bars. This would often suffice in a murder of a homosexual male. His motivation for killing is not only extrinsic, but he has intrinsic motivation in doing so as well. He found pleasure with blood and that often aroused him when his victims were dead to have sex with their bodies. It is not known which factor takes over more when he goes after his victims but both are suitable for his killings.

Past/Relationship Kearney’s relationship with his bullies, hunting animals, and his lover made him the criminal that he is. He has been physically and mentally abused since he was a child. Since he wasn’t able to fend off his urge to kill, he felt it as a way in showing dominance of the people he murdered. When he got into a relationship with Hill, their constant fighting and arguments would lead him even more into becoming a serial killer. His hunting skills that he learned would come into play and would not be able to stop until he was caught. Society made him into a monster, but he didn’t care because he didn’t confine to society anyways.
