My father’s death also helped me learn the difference between friends who truly care and those who do not. It was not the fact that they did not care, but they just did not go the extra mile to check up on me every once in awhile, or at least give their condolences. During the two weeks of me missing from school, one of my closest friends took matters into her own hands in terms of comfort. She had everyone in my Anatomy class write down words of comfort and prayers on a pieces of papers. When I came back to school, she gave me an envelope that contained the papers and I received the greatest hug ever. Meanwhile, a boy I had feelings for who I was “friends” with, texted me saying something so cliche and left it at that. At times like this, friends matter immensely. Friends can help give reassurance to let one know that can get through sufferings.

Ultimately the loss made me stronger. The fifth stage of the five stages of grief is acceptance. It all started with the funeral service. The funeral service was very beautiful and in the end, I felt peace within myself. I had finally accepted his death. He would not want me to stop everything because of my sadness. In fact, my father hated when my sisters and I cried- he would say, “Stop all that crying” my father raised us to be tough from our youth until he passed away. In view of this, I take it and use what he taught daily. I learned to turn the sadness of his loss into motivation. The motivation also turns into dedication and commitment in order to achieve goals. Although I struggle, it will drive me to work and try harder because I would like to dedicate my success towards my father and make him proud.
