my comfort zone to benefit the group. I believe this exemplified leadership because I helped suggest ideas and try new ways to accomplish goals within our group. I approached this positively, as with the rest of the day, and I lifted my team up rather than put them down, when our outcome was unfortunate.

Being a leader means realizing it is a team effort, as well as being an active listener. A famous saying tells it in the best way: “There is no “I” in team.” This is exactly true and every leader must understand this. At Great Oaks, I exemplified leadership by my realization when I was little help. This came into play when a task required balance and upper body strength, both of which I severely lack. We had to swing from a rope and land on a cinder block, which was wet, as well, because it was a rainy day. My abilities to act in this situation were weakened, I acknowledged that, and allowed others, whom had these abilities, to display what was needed to be done. I still contributed my ideas, but I also listened to what other people were telling me I needed to do in order to achieve our goal. Realizing one’s ideas were not always the right ones was essential to our success in this obstacle. A leader respects others and their ideas. My organizational assistance played a key role as well, but being a leader is utilizing everyone’s strengths.

Being a leader means sacrifice. Sacrifice of time. Sacrifice of comfort. One volunteers for those jobs when no one else will. One must desire to be as helpful as they possibly can. I am now a second year participant of Washington Leadership and Community Service (WLCS) club. Bundling up in a hat, gloves, and multiple layers to hand out programs at multiple Freshman football games or to collect cans for W.H.I.P., were simply a few of my volunteer projects. Painting windows, both years, for homecoming was another. I participated in the unofficial pay it forward day following the tornado, where I cleaned up a farmers field. In the field, I discovered a basketball warm up from Rachel Zwilling, whom had lost her house. I returned it to her and her gratitude poured from her. That is simply one instance, which makes volunteer work worth it. Some of the jobs I volunteered to do were more fun than others, but I did them all because I yearn to be helpful.

Being a leader is setting an example, benefiting others, believing, inspiring, optimism, teamwork, and sacrifice. The world is full of leaders. Our school has many. I believe I am one of them through my many situations and instances I have displayed leadership. Leaders are helping to reach a goal. The goal is attained by mutual cooperation and cohesive behavior. The ends of leadership involve getting results through others, and the means of leadership involve the ability to build cohesive, goal-oriented teams. I am a leader by example, benefit, belief, inspiration, optimism, teamwork, and sacrifice.

Dear Teachers

I would just like to acknowledge you all, in a little letter, because I do not see any of you very often, during the day. To begin, thank you all so much for allowing me the privilege to even apply. This is an amazing opportunity you are offering, and I am honored to be in consideration. I hope you enjoyed my essay, as well, as everyone else’s. Our sophomore class hosts many great leaders, therefore, best of luck with decision making!

Yours Truly,
