With everything that happened to build the tension between the Union and the Confederacy the Civil War finally happened. The war lasted for four years ending with the Union Winning. The Union winning the Civil War meant the country was becoming united again. The main way the Union beat the Confederacy was the power of money. The North was very wealthy from their was doing very well in their factories where the cotton business was starting to die down a bit. Since the Union was getting more money, they could afford to have advanced weaponry. The South was not prepared and equipped enough and could not adequately defend themselves. There also is power in numbers the Union had more soldiers available than the Confederacy. Casualties typically were equal, but the North could afford to lose soldiers.
The war was longer than anticipated but was a necessary evil. The Outcome if was different would affect today so much. If the Confederacy would have won more than likely the country would be divided up into two countries. There is a possibility that Slavery would still be a significant factor in our nation. The Civil War had more casualties than any other war in American history. The War had a large effect on the property and money in the country. The war was over, but there was a lot of work to be done to repair the damage done to the nation. Twelve years of reconstruction followed after the war, the future of the slaves was debated back and forth between the North and South eventually having slavery legally come to an end.
