someone is taken out of the barracoon and flogged. This is to reduce morale even lower. All the slaves are chained as well when they’re in the barracoons. It is interesting to see how slavers manage to keep down so many people while not killing them and keeping the slaves powerless.

When sugarcane is harvested, it is brought to the boiling house to remove it from sugar cane. The process of boiling sugar in large quantities is very dangerous. If a slave touches the sugar it will burn them, the consistency is very thick so it will get stucked on skin and burn them even further.Working conditions in sugar boiling houses is very poor. The slaves must work away in insane temperatures. The outcome is sugar which is very profitable because it’s such a luxury. The image shows a slave throwing away sugarcane residue into trash furnace while a white overseer watcher him. The interesting about image isn’t the image ,but the background of the image. Boiling Houses was one of the worst jobs a slave could recieve.

This image shows a battle from the successful slave revolt in Haiti. The image shows slaves with guns firing upon the unseen slave owners. The Haitian revolt was the first successful slave revolt. The country was given independence from France in 1804 and the country was slave free. This battle is just a small sample image of what occurred during that time period. It is interesting to see an illustration of the battle in Saint Domingue. The slaves in Haiti were freed in 1804 while in America the slaves were freed in 1865. There was a short distance between these countries ,but that didn’t sway America’s opinion on the most profitable business the past couple centuries.
