I attended and graduated from a magnet/theme school where our theme was to be environmentally friendly, we were firm believers of reduce, reuse, and recycle. Most information given was displayed on active boards and teacher’s website limiting student and teaching paper usage. Many assignments had to be typed, correctly formatted, and emailed to teachers for grading where many of us learned how to type and use different programs for presentations and classroom discussions. I am very grateful for my high school because it prepared me for college while also teaching me valuable skills and lessons needed in the real world. I believe that technology should be integrated into the classroom not only because it can be beneficial to the environment but for numerous reasons. It has the ability to engage students into lessons while also simplifying sometimes complicated material allowing them to take interest and understanding of the topic at hand. Different programs and devices specialize in certain topics while other can cover a combination of core subjects. It gives students access to information outside the classroom while also giving immediate feedback to correct or incorrect answer that a teacher may not be able to provide. Countless reports have proven that technology is a reliable resource in which many students enjoy using. Change is sometimes good and in order “for an innovation [or] change to be successful, all affected parties must work together to support each other through the process” (Schifter, 39). If school districts, teachers, and administrators work together to integrate technology use and programs into core curriculum, significant increases of student performance and understanding will occur.
