I personally never thought to read a bad book, usually if a book is bad or horrible I toss it and grab another. I have only read a few books in comparison to Mr. King, and of them, they were only ones that I found to be good. I know now that I should be reading everything I can get my hands on to learn what to avoid in my own writing.

As for what is “a lot” of writing, well we can simply look at the number of books that he has had published, which is staggering in terms of the amount of reading that he does on top of writing. Stephen King says this about his writing “I’ve written because it fulfilled me. Maybe it paid off the mortgage on the house and got the kids through college, but those things were on the side. I did it for the buzz. I did it for the pure joy of the thing. And if you can do it for the joy, you can do it forever.” -Stephen King

That quote tells me that his writing came before all else, and provides an idea of the amount of writing he does.

I am a huge fan of Stephen King; I have grown up to his books and have watched the movie versions too. Stephen King is an amazing writer as can be seen through a few of the awards I mentioned earlier. He deserves the attention of aspiring writers even though some think his opinions and tips are rough and brutal due to his literary achievements. Stephen King gives us personal examples of his own reading and writing habits to show us what it takes to be a successful writer. He tells us and shows us that we must read good and bad books, a lot of them, and we must write a lot as well, above all else. Who else better to listen to when learning to become a good or even a great writer than to Stephen King Americas wealthiest writer of horror, fantasy and fiction literature.
