Last but not least, the third quality I will be looking for is diligence. An entrepreneur must be hardworking to make his or her company continuously successful. The leader’s diligence will also influence the company’s culture and make other people work along with the leader. Personally, I have seen and heard many companies back home in China that were successful at the beginning. China is rapidly developing, so it is not rare to see start-up companies perform very well when they entered the industry. When those companies started to make money, some of the leaders started to spend less time on work. At the same time, they started to spend the companies’ profit on their personal interests like luxury cars and goods, tried to “enjoy” their lives after success. Eventually their companies started to lose money or even went bankrupt. However, the continuously hardworking of the leader will very likely to make the company grow rather than decline. As an example, my father started a company in 2007. The company is actually a manufactory in a traditional industry. He works hard as the CEO of the company, usually nine hours a day and six days a week. He spends most of his energy and time on his career. His cellphone is never off. He learned how to do every single job in the company. Starting with a dozen people, his company now has more than three hundred employees. He has made a model for his employees and many of them said they admired him for his hardworking. I use this as an example because this has the most direct influence on me. I have talked to some classmates about important things that will help young graduates start their own business. Most of them think that the most important thing is an innovational idea. However, my father started his business because he saw an opportunity in a traditional industry rather than came up with some revolutionary idea. Then he stick to it, worked hard, and made his company successful, which makes me think that the most important factor of his success is his diligence. As a result, if I am looking to join an entrepreneurial start-up for my job, I will definitely consider diligence as one of the most important qualities I will be looking for in the leader.
