affected Delia physically and mentally, where she no longer cares about him and lets him die.

Sykes receives what he deserves; a bite from a rattlesnake that lead to his death; a totally

unpredicted ending of the story. Delia will no longer be abuse, by her cold-blooded, aggressive

husband and will have the life she really deserves. I have learned that being in unhealthy

relationships is extremely dangerous that can turn into a psychological or real death. This story

of domestic violence is not only Delia but also woman around the world face every day in their

lives. I can relate to this story, because my mother went though domestic violence when she first

got married. Same as Delia, my mom is a Christian woman that lived to serve her husband and

in retuned she was brutally abused by her husband. I really love the end of this story because

Sykes death was the only way out for Delia to live; it was either she or her husband. In my

mothers experience, my Father didn’t die as Sykes but he changed when he converted to

Christianity. Although my dad changed my mother still remembers how she was brutally abuse

by my dad and she has to deal with it for the rest of her life or until she decides to get theraphy.

Being abused must be hard for any woman, beaten physically you can recover but being

emotionally abused have more bad effects that takes longer to recover. Many of us are blessed

to have great husbands that we sometimes take them for granted. This story helped me realize

how blessed I am and how important is to have a good relationship with not just your spouse but

will all the family. Everyone deserves to be happy, and not settle for an unhealthy relationship; a

life full of love, and respect regardless of one’s culture, race, or beliefs.
